Since the introduction and commercial adoption of LAS, much research and countless studies have been carried out worldwide analyzing every segment of the environment that might be exposed to LAS. These studies considered all the components of commercial LAS including LAB, DATS and isoLAS. Scientists and research teams from reputable universities and other independent research organisations have conducted thorough analyses of rivers, soils, sediments, sewage treatment plants and other sections of the environment. Also laboratory research and experiments on animals and humans have been carried out to asses whether LAS has any adverse effects. In essence, the conclusions drawn are that LAS biodegrades rapidly and therefore may be considered as harmless.

All these research efforts have culminated in an extensive collection of data showing that LAS is environmentally safe and acceptable. Even though LAS is the most studied surfactant ever, research continues even until today in order to provide yet more assurance that LAS is a preferred surfactant. It is fair to assume, therefore, that LAS will be recognized as such for the foreseeable future.
